SCOPE OF POSITION:


Provides leadership direction, management and oversight for major and leadership gifts programs across the territory in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels (territorial, divisional, local, national), including officer leaders, development professionals, leadership volunteers and professional consultants, across function (e.g. planned giving, direct marketing) and department (e.g. gift services, finance, CRD, program) boundaries in order to maximize success with major and leadership gifts generation and renewal across the territory, both for operating and capital / endowment purposes.???

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:



  1. Minimum Bachelor?s degree required.

  2. Ten or more years of experience with major gifts, capital / endowment campaigns, and professional development work, with documented track record of success.

  3. Success with securing gifts at a six-figure or higher level.

  4. Campaign and leadership management experience preferred.

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:



  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes.

  2. Experience with PC?s and networking.

  3. Experience with donor data management software.

  4. Familiarity with prospect research tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




  1. Oversee implementation of territorial major gifts policies and protocols in collaboration with all key stakeholders, participating in leadership planning to significantly increase major gifts income. Collect and organize key gift officer and donor interactions on a monthly basis.

  2. Conduct / facilitate ongoing professional staff trainings (major gifts cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, etc.) and professional support opportunities throughout the territory and at conferences.

  3. Develop prescribed divisional major gifts program accountability and reporting structure, with standard, territory-wide reporting mechanisms and metrics.

  4. Work with divisional supervisors for consistent implementation of best practices and effective management of major gifts officers (whatever their title may be) and leadership giving officers (when such positions exist) and their administrative support staff (as it relates to supporting an effective major gifts program infrastructure).

  5. Evaluate divisional programs, staff and practices and policies on an annual basis and provide ongoing professional support for success and growth.

  6. Supervise Territorial Prospect Research Manager and ensure qualified prospect pipelines are continually developed for divisions for assignment and list review, with data screening and in-depth profiling conducted as needed.

  7. Work with major and leadership gifts professionals on developing high level asks (research, strategy, case, pitch, team, timing, etc.).

  8. Facilitate cross-divisional / regional / territorial / national / international asks in collaboration with major gifts officers and leadership giving officers when it makes sense given a donor?s charitable interests and philanthropic capacity.

  9. Serve as key participant on leadership team for any future territorial capital / endowment campaigns or projects and as manager of related professional campaign counsel.

  10. Work with divisions to support successful capital and endowment campaigns, nurturing effective planning and processes, careful selection of consultants, development of strong leadership cabinets, supporting successful fund raising practices, reviewing reports and ensuring good integration with annual major giving programs.

  11. Facilitate increased collaboration between major gifts, planned giving and territorial gift services professionals in regard to cultivation and solicitation of qualified donors for high end outright or planned gifts, and propose ways to incentivize such collaboration through gift crediting policies.

  12. Develop, alongside Territorial Director of Gift Planning, an effective case, communications materials and campaign-like push for increased gifts for program and operating endowment, with naming opportunities outlined.

  13. Assist divisions with professional recruitment and training, orientation, and coaching of major gifts and leadership giving staff for maximum success.

  14. Collaborate with territorial donor (data) management staff to ensure robust and effective use of territory-wide database (Portfolio) in support of major and leadership gifts work (e.g. caseload assignments, communications steps, contact reports, goals and results, tracking volunteer solicitor relationships, research documentation, etc.).

  15. Facilitate improved major donor / gift stewardship communication practices at divisional levels through idea-sharing, tactical advice, activity tracking, setting of standards, support through development of content and materials, integrated calendar planning, social and digital media strategies, sharing of volunteer opportunities, etc.

  16. Work with divisions to develop effective mid-level donor stewardship and solicitation programs for those donors whose giving and capacity fall below an assignment benchmark for major gifts caseloads, but who are nonetheless generous to the Army and merit more personalized attention than mass direct marketing approaches.?

  10. Ability to be a driven self-starter and innovator; to work independently with a minimum of supervision, while working collaboratively and cooperatively under the direction of department and territorial leadership.

  11. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities.

  13. A major gifts fund raiser at heart, able to successfully engage with major / leadership donors, prospects and volunteers through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activity.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
